Sibling Support Group
Helping Brothers and Sisters and Supporting the Entire Family
The Larc Norcross School’s Sibling Support Group provides therapeutic and social support to our students’ brothers and sisters, helping them with the challenges of being a brother or sister of a child with special needs. The group is open to all siblings of Larc students and provides services to siblings ages 4 to 17.
Often, siblings of a child with a disability feel isolated and have trouble communicating their feelings about their experience. They want to know more about their siblings’ disabilities and need to know how to respond when their friends and peers ask questions.
The Sibling Support Group provides a safe and supportive environment for siblings to share their feelings with others dealing with the same challenges. The Group’s professional facilitators provide age-appropriate information, reassurance, and help them develop adaptive coping and communication strategies.
Many Sibling Group participants find that, as a result of their experience with the group, they are able to talk more easily and comfortably with others about their family member with special needs and develop and extend supportive relationships outside their families.
