Sibling Support Group

Helping Brothers and Sisters and Supporting the Entire Family

Larc School’s Sibling Support Group provides our students’ brothers and sisters with therapeutic and social supports to help them with the challenges of being a brother or sister of a child with special needs. The group is open to all siblings of Larc students, and provides services to siblings ages 4 to 17.

Often siblings of a child with a disability feel isolated and have trouble communicating their feelings about their experience. They want to know more about their siblings’ disabilities, and need to know how to respond when their friends and peers ask questions.

The Sibling Support Group provides a safe and supportive environment for siblings to share their feelings with others dealing with the same challenges. The Group’s professional facilitators provide age-appropriate information, reassurance, and help them develop adaptive coping and communication strategies.

Many Sibling Group participants find they are able to more easily and comfortably talk with others about their family member with special needs, and develop and extend supportive relationships outside their families as a result of their experience with the group.
